Academic Computing & Media Services is led by our director Jeff Henry.
Supports all 16 ACMS Units by providing human resource, financial, space, purchasing, travel and payroll services. Provides executive support to the Director and guidance and assistance to the Assistant Directors on business matters pertaining to their functional areas of responsibility. The Marketing & Communications team within the Business Office is responsible for publicizing ACMS's many services and alerting the campus to news of interest to education, especially in the field of educational technology. The Marketing & Communications team also provides assistance to ACMS staff in creating consistently excellent communications in a variety of media.
Audiovisual Design & Engineering provides turnkey solutions for your audiovisual needs. Services include audiovisual system design, needs assessment, infrastructure design, commissioning and project and construction management. We also provide installation services such as electrical and network configuration, quality assurance testing, and user training.
For instructional technology classroom and lecture hall support including help with media stations, projectors, and document cameras ACMS is available for immediate technical support by calling our classroom support line at 534-5784 (x4‑5784).
The ACMS Help Desk provides primary support for student email, network and ACMS application login support. It is home to the Residential Networking group (ResNet), the team that assists students in residential housing with network registration and connection issues. UCSD students can also obtain virus removal help and wireless troubleshooting help at the Help Desk located in AP&M 1313.
Instructional Support Services offers the UCSD community in-depth group and individual training for a variety of online classroom services (including Ted.ucsd.edu, Turnitin, course podcasting, and student response systems). ISS staff are also responsible for consulting with faculty on new instructional technology tools and providing best practices for their effective use.
LMS Infrastructure & Development supports, manages, and enhances the technical infrastructure for course website access to faculty and students via http://ted.ucsd.edu, the campus-wide learning management system (LMS).
The Media Lab is dedicated to providing outstanding facilities, equipment, and technical assistance to UC San Diego undergraduate students enrolled in official media production classes, and graduate students using media in their research. The Media Lab's aim is to facilitate students in making the highest quality videos and films, with excellent sound, editing, and cinematography.
Media Services provides an array of fee-based audio-visual support services including video production and editing, sound reinforcement for special events, and AV equipment rental to individuals with an index/recharge number.
Microsupport manages campus computing labs in 104 locations. Labs range from Windows and OS X to dual Windows and Linux stations and software loads with office productivity and browsers to sophisticated scientific applications and computerized instrumentation labs. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of student Active Directory accounts.
Responsible for the ACMS computer room and labs, security, backups, inventory and equipment installation. The Operations group audits ACMS’s 104 computer labs daily and provides supplies and maintenance for peripherals.
Instructional IT infrastructure system support: File storage provisioning and management, student messaging (ACMS Webmail), student web server provisioning, remote file access, data backups, Unix/Linux system administration (operating system installation, patches and maintenance), student and recharge printing/plotting, network switch configuration, network and system security, account management databases and tools, identity management systems and tools, usage data logging and analysis.
Technical Services provides computer repair and upgrades, network design, installation and troubleshooting for ACMS. Desktop Support provides recharge on-site software installation and system administration services.
Instructional IT infrastructure user support: student account provisioning, management and support. Instructional resource configuration and allocation (C-Info), support for instructional application software packages and systems (use, deployment/installation, licensing), second tier helpdesk support for ACMS computing services and systems, liaison to academic departments for Instructional Computing Plan process.
