Downloading and Installing the iClicker Classic Software

Learn how to download software for the iClicker student response system and integration files for the UC San Diego Canvas learning management system.

Alert

At the end of 2023, iClicker Classic will no longer be supported. All instructors who wish to continue using iClicker should plan the switch to iClicker Cloud for use no later than the beginning of Winter 2024 term.

Select the proper software depending on whether or not you use Canvas.

Integrating iClicker with your Canvas course provides three advantages:

  1. Easier roster acquisition
  2. Easier, more accurate, and less expensive student clicker registration
  3. Easier, more secure student scores

Installing iClicker Classic

Mac

System Requirements:
  • Mac OSX version 10.9.5 or above
  • Intel processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • One available USB 2.0+ port
  • Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels
  • Minimum Excel 2007 (or equivalent) required to view reports
Installing iClicker 7:
  1. Download the Mac OS .dmg file from the appropriate drawer above to your hard drive.
  2. Double click the .dmg file to see the iclicker application folder.
  3. Open the Applications folder: from the Finder menu, click Go, then select Applications.
  4. Drag the iclicker folder into Applications.
  5. To avoid accidentally using the wrong files in the future, eject the disc image, and delete the .dmg file from your computer.
  6. To make iClicker available to launch from the Mac dock, open the iClicker folder from Applications and drag the file iclicker.app to your Mac dock.
  7. If you have student polling results for the current quarter that you still need to use, drag the Classes folder from your old 7.x iClicker folder to the new folder. (Version 6.x results are not compatible with version 7.)

Windows

System requirements:
  • Windows 7 or above operating system (32- or 64-bit) with .NET 4.0.3
  • 1 GHz or faster 32-bit or 64-bit processor
  • 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • One available USB 2.0+ port
  • Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels
  • Minimum Excel 2007 (or equivalent) required to view reports
Installing iClicker 7:
  1. Download the Windows OS .zip file from the appropriate drawer above to your desktop.
  2. Open the file and choose to extract all files and select a location. We recommend extracting to a folder on your desktop (which is the default).
  3. To avoid accidentally using the wrong files in the future, delete the zip file from your desktop.
  4. If you have student polling results for the current quarter that you need to still use, drag the Classes folder from your old 7.x iclicker folder to the new folder. (Version 6.x results are not compatible with version 7.)

Linux Requirements:

  1. 1 GHz G4 (or faster) processor
  2. Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04 LTS, 16.04 Xenial LTS 64-bit versions
  3. 512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended)
  4. One available USB 2.0 port
  5. Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels
  6. Minimum Excel 2007 (or equivalent) required to view reports
Important: The Linux version requires super admin privileges to perform the initial set-up of the computer and does not support 32-bit systems. iClicker Classic for Linux currently only supports Ubuntu LTS releases listed. If you need help installing the Linux version, email clickers@ucsd.edu.
