Go to the HP website to download the Universal Print Driver.

Click the download button

click save

double click the zip file you just downloaded

Click Run

Click Unzip or change the directory where the driver is stored if desired
Once the files are unzipped close the dialog box

Start > devices and printers
Click on add a printer

click on add a local printer

Click on create a new port, change the dropdown to standard TCP/IP port

Type print.ucsd.edu in the Hostname or IP address box


Wait for Windows to detect a port

Click the custom radio button then settings

Change the protocol to LPR click OK then next

Wait again while Windows looks for a printer

Select the HP Universal Printing (v5.0) click next
When asked, use the driver currently installed and hit next

This can be any name you want

At this point do not print a test page, click finish
You are now ready to print with your new printer but it might be a good idea to reboot your computer first.
