Student Email has migrated to Gmail

UC San Diego Information Technology Services (IT Services) has been converting student email accounts to Gmail (Google G Suite) over the past four years. As of July 25th, 2018, IT Services has completed the transition of all remaining student mailboxes to this service.

Please visit https://gmail.ucsd.edu to access email.

If your email resides on mail.ucsd.edu, please check your email at https://mail.ucsd.edu.

How does this affect you?

〉I already use Gmail/G Suite for my UC San Diego student email.

You do not need to do anything. There will be no changes to your account or service.

〉I use my UC San Diego credentials for G Suite apps, but not Gmail.

If you log into G Suite apps (e.g., Google Drive or Docs), you may notice your old email being synchronized, in batches, into your Gmail account. It may take several weeks for all of your email to synchronize into your new account. Continue to check your student email account through your usual methods until you receive notification from IT Services that the synchronization is complete.

Once you receive a notification, you have two options:

  • Option 1: Do nothing until July 9, 2018 when your account will be cutover to the Gmail platform.
After this date, access your email at gmail.ucsd.edu, logging in with your student email address (e.g., username@ucsd.edu) and password. All of your emails will be in your new UCSD Gmail account.
Follow these instructions to reconfigure your email clients or mobile devices
  • Option 2: Redirect your email to your new Gmail account.

     Set your mail server

Please be sure to set your mailbox to username@gcloud.ucsd.edu.
If you do not add gcloud, your mail cannot be delivered.
Access your email at gmail.ucsd.edu, logging in with your student email address (e.g., username@gcloud.ucsd.edu) and password. All of your emails will be in your Gmail account.

If you have never logged into Gmail or G Suite using your UC San Diego credentials, but have received notification from IT Services that your synchronization onto the Gmail platform is complete, you have two options:
