Lab Printing (Windows 7 / OS X 10.8)

Your UCSD username is automatically linked to your ACMS Laser Printing account. Typically, any laser printing jobs you submit are charged to your own Laser Account, but if you would like to charge your print job to another account, see below

1. Physically locate the printer

First, find the printer that you want to print to. The name of the printer (e.g. laser63, color19) is on a label posted on the printer.

Printer Name

2. Select printer name from list

Once you have opened the file you want to print, press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Command+P (Mac) to open the print dialog. Select the appropriate printer name from the drop-down list, then click "Print".

Note

The printer "zzPrinter" does not send to an actual printer. This is set as the default printer so that students who print without selecting the driver will not be charged for a print job when they send it to an unknown printer.

Charging print jobs to another account

If you would like to charge your print job to a printing account, but cannot log into the lab machines with that account, follow the steps below:

1. Physically locate the printer

First, find the printer that you want to print to. The name of the printer (e.g. laser63, color19) is on a label posted on the printer.

Printer Name

You will also need to note what the printer model is. This can be found on the physical printer.

Printer Model

2. Log into the Remote Printing Authorization Page

Next, you will need to log into our Remote Printing Authorization page. Once there, select the appropriate printer and log in with the username and password of the account you want to charge the job to. Note that the printer model may also be found after the printer name.

Remote Print

3. Select the printer model from list

Once you have opened the file you want to print, press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Command+P (Mac) to open the print dialog. Select the appropriate printer model from the drop-down list. Be sure you have the printer model, NOT the printer name. All printer models will be followed with "print.ucsd.edu" (Windows) or "Remote Printer" (Mac) to verify that the print job will be sent to the printer specified in the Remote Printing Authorization page. Once you have verified that the correct model is selected, click "Print".
